Norah Jones: The Fall

The image of singer/songwriter Norah Jones strumming a guitar instead of sitting at a piano may seem unusual at first. But it’s a perfect visual representation of some of the changes that can be heard on the fourth album, The Fall. She worked with producer Jacquire King (Modest Mouse, Kings of Leon) for the first time and brought aboard a new set of instrumental collaborators, including guitarists Marc Ribot (Tom Waits, Elvis Costello) and Smokey Hormel (Johnny Cash, Joe Strummer) and drummer James Gadson (Bill Withers). She wrote eight tracks and co-wrote five others with the likes of troubadour Ryan Adams and prior collaborators Jesse Harris and Richard Jullian. The deluxe version comes with a half-dozen live bonus tracks, including distinct covers of Cash’s “Cry Cry Cry” and Wilco’s “Jesus, Etc.” The album is available for presale at iTunes now. Release date is set for November 17, 2009. Full track listing, after the jump.

Norah had this to say about the release: “For this record, I just had a sound in my head,” she says. “I wanted the grooves to be more present and heavy. And I also just wanted to do something different.”
